Experience
My family friends who started the organization needed someone to run their social media and create + design their website. They also wanted help with branding such as logos, business cards, stickers, etc. That’s where I came in.

C-Mental Health Rides
C-Mental Health Rides is a non-profit that started in the summer of 2020. This organization is currently undergoing changes but at the time they were riding bikes across the TransAmerica bike trail to raise money and awareness for mental health in the local and global Church. They wanted to connect with churches along their ride as well as raise money for their open-source website they were creating to provide access to quality sources for people in ministry to educate themselves or get help with addressing mental health issues.
I had no prior experience in graphic design nor in high-key social media posting and website design (other than for myself). This job stretched my limits and made me much more adaptable. I worked around 25 hours a week on creating their logo, as well as editing and scheduling posts on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. I also designed their whole website and kept it updated as their trip went along. I helped them reach their goal of $2,000 half way through their ride. I was on the clock to answer messages or make phone calls nearly 24/7. Many details changed throughout their trip and I had to be in constant communication with them, even as they rode their bicycles. Through this job I overcame many obstacles on days I was tired and did things I had no prior experience in doing.
Lesson Learnt
Though I was able to grow and stretch myself a lot with this job, there are many things I wish I could have done differently and better. My graphic design work leaned heavily on pre-made templates on Canva, which definitely crippled my ideas as an artist. The stickers and logos that I made were not quite what my boss was looking for at first and I had to re-do them a lot. I wish I had not taken it so personally and also had worked harder to be more creative and do more in-depth research into design and what competitors were doing. I hope the next chance I get to do a job like this I can excel in these areas.
